4th of July Weekend

We had a great three day weekend and actually had no rain, so we were able to get out of our apartment and do something! We decided to go try the steam train and riverboat ride in Essex, CT. Aubrey loved the train, but was a little frightened by all the noises at first. The train was a coal-burning steam engine that they shoveled coal into by hand along the whole length of the trip. I'm glad I don't have that job! The engine and cars were refurbished and were actually used through the 1950's and 60's to transport people through the state. We road the train and then it dropped us off for the riverboat ride up the Connecticut river a few miles. We we able to see Gillette Castle and the Goodspeed Opera House from the boat. We happen to get caught in a down pour of rain while on the boat and while we loaded back onto the train for our ride back to the station, but Aubrey and us actually had fun running in the rain! For the remainder of the weekend we relaxed by the pool and went to a barbecue with some friends. It was so nice to have a long weekend! Hope everyone enjoyed their holiday weekend!!
