Road to Recovery

So nearly another month has gone by again since my last post and yet so much has happened! Remember I mentioned how excited we were for Super Bowel weekend. My Dad was coming to visit, Sam and I were going to have an overnight date, and we all were going to watch the game and eat all the yummy goodies that come along with football! Well I may have forgotten to mention that Sam was gearing up for the Windsor HS football coaches annual full-contact football game on Super Bowel Sunday. Yep, you heard me right...full contact football...helmets, pads, cleats, the whole works for a few hours of fun. I'm not sure how many of you remember Sam's football career at Mesa State College. It was great, but as many football players experience, it was also accompanied with a few orthopedic surgeries, 3 to be exact...2 ankles and 1 right knee.

Needless to say this didn't really go through Sam's or my mind before hand and he was so pumped for the opportunity to put on the gear and play like the good ol' days...well kind of. :) There was a great turn out of players and spectators despite the freezing weather. I believe the players ages ranged from early 20's to early 60's! We watched from the car and even though it was a pretty sloppy game, it was fun and Sam had an absolute blast. A few bruses and tight muscles, but that was to be expected. Later we got home and started preparing for the next big game. Sam showered up and started to relax on the couch, but soon found out he couldn't get up. He knee was locked and he wasn't able to walk without quit a bit of pain! Well after a week of icing and hoping it would get better on its own, followed by a trip to the HS athletic trainer, then an orthopedic doctor and finally an MRI it was final....Sam had torn his lateral meniscus and probably re injured the medial meniscus (the old college injury)!

Well Sam had surgery last week and everything went well. Unfortunately he is on crutches for 4 weeks! The surgeon was able to repair the torn meniscus versus cutting it out, but this also means a much longer recovery. Aubrey has been having fun helping take care of Daddy and getting to watch a little more TV than normal...she loves movies!

Hopefully this is the last visit we will ever have to make to an orthopedic doctor for a very, VERY long time and hopefully this it the last big game Sam will actually play in EVER!! (Don't tell him I said that! :) )

Before the BIG game!

After surgery!
